
George P.
McCarthy joined the firm after serving as a city and assistant county proseutor for many
years. His handles personal injury cases, auto accidents, divorces/dissolutions, OVI/DUI
and underage drinking/false ID/resisting arrest cases to name a few. He also prepares
wills and trusts and can help you with forming a corporation. He regularly appears
in Muncipal Court, Juvenile Court and Common Pleas Court.
George received his law
degree from Ohio Northern University. He is licensed to practice in the courts of Ohio,
the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit,
and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. He also received
instruction from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Department of Justice,
the National District Attorney's Association, the American Arbitration Association, and
the Ohio State Highway Patrol. He has testified before the Ohio General Assembly on
legislation regarding drunk driving and sexual assault.
George is a member of the
Ohio State Bar Association and the Athens County Bar Association where he has served as
President, Vice-President and Treasurer. He is also a member of the Ohio Association of
Civil Trial Attorneys and a life fellow of the Ohio State Bar Foundation. A former member
of the International Association of Prosecutors, the National District Attorneys
Association, and the Ohio Municipal Attorneys Association, George has written several
articles for prosecuting attorneys' publications, and has been an instructor for the Ohio
Municipal Attorneys Association, Hocking College's Peace Officer Certification program,
and the Ohio Peace Officer Academy Training and Certification program. He is an instructor
in the paralegal program of the Adult Career Center in Nelsonville, Ohio.
George
is a member of the Richland Area Volunteer Fire Department, Kiwanis International, chair
of the Athens County Domestic Violence Task Force, and co-chair of the Policy and
Procedures Committee of Ohio University's CARDD. He is a founder and current board member
for Athens Sandlot Baseball & Softball, a youth sports league.
